Getting to Evergreen
You’ve got a few ways to make your way to Evergreen. The quickest is jumping on I-70 and cruising down Highway 74—just 20 minutes from Denver. If you want to soak in more of the scenery, take Highway 285 through Conifer. It’s a bit slower but worth it for the canyon views. And if you’re feeling adventurous, try the route up Lookout Mountain from Golden—an experience all on its own.

Evergreen has hiking options for every level. If you’re a beginner or hiking with family, start with the 1.3-mile loop around Evergreen Lake. Looking for more of a challenge? Head to Elk Meadow or tackle Bergen Peak for a leg workout. My personal favorite is the Three Sisters Trail, where you’ll enjoy breathtaking 360-degree views of Conifer, Evergreen, and the Front Range. Just remember to check trail conditions using the AllTrails app before heading out.
Downtown Evergreen
After a morning hike or paddling on the lake, head to downtown Evergreen for lunch. You’ll find a variety of dining options, from fried oysters at The Bait Shack to pizza at Beau Jo’s, a Colorado favorite. Personally, I love the relaxed atmosphere and cocktails at Murphy’s Mountain Grill. After you eat, stroll through local shops, art galleries, or unwind on a patio with live music.
Scenic Drives and Luxury Homes
Love scenic drives or interested in checking out some luxury homes? Take a ride down Upper Bear Creek. This road leads to multi-million dollar properties—some resembling castles—tucked along the peaceful waters of Evergreen Lake. It’s more than a drive; it’s a glimpse into luxurious mountain living.
